No. This is pure, untreated bamboo with nothing sprayed, dyed or sealed onto it. That is the whole point, your drink touches plant material and nothing else.

Because they are cut from real bamboo. Green and yellow bamboo carry different tones, and around five to ten percent of straws show natural bamboo specks. It is normal character, not a flaw, and it has no effect on use.

Rinse it right after use and let it air dry standing up. A thin straw brush keeps the inside spotless. Give it a quick clean before the very first use, as with any natural bamboo drinkware.

It adds a faint, clean, woody note that most people find pleasant and that fades as the straw is used. There is none of the plastic taste you get from disposables.
